Bike repair instructors at competitive rates needed for Junior Mechanics program

SCVA Junior Mechanics is an educational program dedicated to empowering youth and teaching mechanical, job, riding and social skills to boys and girls 13-18 years old from the South Chicago and surrounding neighborhoods. Instructors (2) will be expected to lead program participants (up to 30) in daily educational and recreational bicycle-related activities including learning about bike parts, maintenance, riding safety, social interactions, math, basic principles of physics and job training. You will be working with youth in the local community to repair their own and donated bikes, as well as be a positive introduction to bike culture and skilled mechanical work. This is a unique opportunity to be a role model for the cycling community, teach self-sufficiency and job skills, and engage with young people. Applicants must have:

  • Work experience as a bicycle mechanic not necessary but is helpful
  • Experience teaching or working with youth
  • Experience managing small and medium sized groups
  • A positive attitude and desire to pass on knowledge to the younger generation
