A big thanks to our volunteers on our first big work day!

Yesterday we had a great crew of folks down at the velodrome to start getting it in shape for racing. We made progress in securing the guardrails along the top of the track, weeding out the infield, and assembling the ADA ramp. Thanks so much to all of our volunteers for coming out, it was definitely a hot and sweaty day but hopefully as rewarding for you all as it was for me. Thanks to Teresa and Rico, Colleen, Demetrius, Erson, Jose, Rodney, Matt, Cristian, and Jim for all the help and hard work. Hopefully the burgers and dogs took a little of the edge off the day. Special thanks to James L. and Colleen K., who came to the very first shift and stayed until the end. James especially deserves a round of applause for his high wire act while re-attaching the guardrail.

We also got the opportunity to meet some folks from the neighborhood, and we’re looking forward to working with them in the future. South Chicago has a lot to offer, with a nearby community garden that’s getting ready for harvest. If you haven’t been down to the track or been able to visit the neighborhood we’ll be hosting additional work days this weekend. Keep your eyes peeled for more details.
