While\u00a0Track repairs<\/a>\u00a0aren’t yet complete (please sign up for shifts this weekend) our High School League\u00a0students will be\u00a0going through orientation and starting to get the feel of things on the grounds starting tomorrow. We wanted to take this opportunity to introduce our coach for the program, who beginning Friday will be working with the students twice a week on skills, tactics, and teamwork.<\/p>\n

Stephen Thordarson is a Level 1 USA Cycling coach with over 25 years of experience coaching numerous teams as well as future coaches. He\u2019s taught tactics classes and held training camps at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado as well as having helped run Paralympic training camps at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. He\u2019s brought numerous people into the sport including our own president, Marcus Moore, whose first introduction to track riding was with Coach Thordarson.<\/p>\n

Over the years he\u2019s been the cycling coach for the West Suburban Wheelmen, The Pepsi\/PowerBar Cycling Team, The Illinois Bike Racing School, and The Smart Cycling Team. In addition he\u2019s a USA Cycling Mechanic, and has coached and been a mechanic for the USA Cycling U-23 Team, The US Paralympic Cycling Team, The US Paralympic Military Program, and The Wounded Warrior Project. He\u2019s currently coaching and performing mechanical work for the US Navy Safe Harbor Cycling Team.<\/p>\n

Coach Thordarson has authored 8 books topics of racing, bike fit, and tactical training. We\u2019re really excited to have him on board and know he\u2019s looking forward to working with the students as soon as we can get on the track. If you want to help with the High School League we\u2019re looking for additional volunteers to help work with the students as well as as learn from Coach Thordarson some of the finer points of coaching.
